China-based cryptocurrency mining device manufacturer Bitmain is expanding its presence in the North American region. The company, which left the country quickly after China’s bans against miners and bought “hosting” services for its machines, added a new one to these. Bitmain signed a partnership agreement with Bit5ive and ISW Holdings data center companies, paving the way for 56,000 devices to operate in the state of Georgia.
According to the statement made today, all of the devices will be installed in October 2022 and a capacity of 200 megawatts will be reached upon completion of the installation. The first batch of 20 megawatts is expected to start operating next month.
New generation AntMiner S19s will be used
The most striking detail in this agreement is that the mining devices to be used will be Bitmain’s latest model AntMiner S19 series, each of which has a power of 100 terahash per second.
In the statement made by ISW Holdings, one of the “hosting” partners in the agreement, it was informed that their share of payment in this agreement is 62 million dollars, and 6 million dollars of this has already been made.
With this agreement, Bitmain is the last company to attempt to seriously expand its operations in the North American region, after China’s massive ban on mining companies in May. Bitmain was also the company that led the joint investment of $32 million in Dallas-based Applied Blockchain company in June.
Bitmain also announced that it will keep its long-term “hosting” capacity as part of its Applied Blockchain investment.
