The train set up for the European Year of Railways 2021 – according to the FS News website – said goodbye to the beautiful country from the northernmost station of the Peninsula, before continue its rush to Innsbruck and Central Europe, in view of the closing of the tour in Paris, next 7 October.
The train “symbol” of the European Union, designed to raise awareness of citizens and businesses on the importance of a single market for railways, was welcomed at Brenner by the Managing Director of the Italian Railway Network, Vera Fiorani, by the Chief Executive Officer of the Austrian railway company OBB, Andreas Mattha, by the Vice-President of the Province of Tyrol, Ingrid Felipe, from the Austrian MEP Barbara Thaler, by the European Coordinator of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor, Pat Cox, and by the Deputy Minister of MIMS, Teresa Bellanova.
Vera Fiorani she said she was satisfied with the journey just concluded between Rome and the Brenner, which has turned into one profitable opportunity for work and discussion with local, national and European stakeholders on the importance of the railway connection between Italy and the rest of Europe and on strategic works, such as Brenner tunnel, currently affected by work in progress. Works that – as the CEO of RFI recalled – although impacting with their construction sites, have a strong consensus on the part of local realities, aware of the benefits for the economy and transport of the territory increasingly integrated into the continental context.
For its part, the Deputy Minister Teresa Bellanova talked about “A more cohesive, more physically connected, more inclusive, sustainable and integrated Europe, more people-friendly, the one crossed by the Trans-European Transport Networks “. Bellanova also stressed “the attention and commitment of the entire Italian government and of our Ministry for all those interventions that, through increasingly effective, accessible and sustainable mobility systems, aim to facilitate and speed up the movements of people and goods, guaranteeing at the same time and everywhere with safety and attention to environmental and landscape balances “.
