Chanthu. It’s the funny little name that was given to it. And Chanthu is a “Large-scale vortex atmospheric disturbance due to a significant drop in pression ». a hurricane, so. But no, not quite. Because there is a subtlety. When such extreme weather phenomenon grows in the Pacific Northwest, researchers speak of a typhoon instead.
Per ATCF/JTWC, #Chanthu has a strength of 125kts and a pressure of 937mb. This would represent an increase of 40kts in 6 hours, 60kts in 12 hours and 75kts in 24 hours. per ATCF. Just absurd intensification rates are being exhibited by the storm. pic.twitter.com/E6o3CL4gur

Chanthu, therefore, it is a typhon. As it appears regularly in the region. Another of them, Conson, has just hit the Philippines. Causing power cuts. But so far no other major damage. But Chanthu has this in particular that he is intensified in the blink of an eyeeye. Or almost. In less than 12 hours, he went to category 4.

Chanthu could evolve further to earn Category 5 super typhoon status before touching down terre on the side of Taiwan and China September 12th and 13th. The meteorologists estimate that the typhoon could blow over its countries at more than 200 km / h with gusts that could considerably exceed this figure.
PAGASA is now forecasting TY #KikoPH (#Chanthu) of a possible landfall scenario in the Northern Luzon. Those in the area should closely monitor the updates from the agency and local DRRM offices.
It is expected to reach more than 200 km/h of wind intensity…
