Bad news is coming for motorists who will have to have their car overhauled. The cost of the overhaul will increase by 9.95 euros starting November 1, 2021, passing from the current 45 euros to 54.95 euros.
The increase of the +22% , which should have been triggered as early as the end of last January, is contained in the 2021 Budget Law and is linked to the adaptation to the Istat tables.
Car inspection, rates increase
The increase in overhaul prices for motor vehicles and trailers becomes operational with effect from 1 November 2021, with the issue of the implementing Decree by the Minister of Infrastructures and Sustainable Mobility, in agreement with the Minister of Economy and Finance. This is, as indicated in a note by Cna, of an “adjustment” of the tariffs which had been at a standstill for 13 years.
These are the new rates:
- overhaul in Motorization: 45 euros + 22% increase = 54,90 euro;
inspection at an authorized inspection center: 45 euros + 22% increase + 22% VAT + 10.20 euros as Motorization rights + 1.78 euros for the postal order = 78,96 euro.
Safe vehicles bonus
With the increase in tariffs, the decree also established the introduction of the so-called safe vehicles bonus which in practice protects those who have bought a new car from the increase in car inspection rates. It is the state that bears the burden directly.
The bonus is valid for the first three years from its entry into force, therefore until 2023 and has limits: it is valid for a single test session and for a single vehicle (if you own more than one, therefore, the other vehicles will pay the full cost with the new surcharge).
The sum allocated by the state is just 4 million euros, so few will be able to use it.
The penalties for non-inspection of the car
It should be remembered that the penalties for failing to inspect the car range from 173 euros to a maximum of 694 euros.
This is established by art. 80 paragraph 14 of the Highway Code for those found driving a vehicle beyond the expiry of the review terms.
The amount can double in case of relapse, or if the test has not been carried out for more than one periodic period. In addition, the Highway Code provides for the ancillary sanction of prohibiting the circulation of the vehicle until the revision is carried out: in practice, it allows only to move to bring the vehicle for inspection. Driving during the suspension period entails a fine from € 1,998 to € 7,993, in addition to 90 days of administrative detention and the confiscation of the vehicle if the violation is repeated.
