Sorare recently announced a major partnership, the first of its kind, with the Spanish professional football league. The company will therefore be able to issue cards to all players in the championship.
Sorare has experienced impressive development since we presented the company in our columns in July 2020. The young French company has this time concluded a prestigious partnership with LaLiga, the organizer of the Spanish professional football championships. This partnership will allow the launch of non-fungible tokens (non-fungible tokens, or NFT) of all players, thus creating “New sources of income for LaLiga clubs through an unprecedented category of licenses”.
Cards of all players in the championship
This partnership, which covers both LaLiga Santander (first division) and LaLiga Smartbank (second division), will allow free exchange and play with digital cards of players from these competitions, such as Gerard Piqué of FC Barcelona, Vinícius of Real Madrid and Antoine Griezmann from Atlético de Madrid. Those who follow the company’s news will note that this is the first partnership with a major football league, although licensing deals have already been made with clubs across Europe.
This is for example the case of Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool FC, FC Bayern Munich or Juventus Turin. With this partnership, Sorare now has the majority of the 100 biggest football clubs in the world under license.
“This partnership is not only an indicator of Sorare’s growing leadership in the NFT space, it is also a major signal of intent on the part of the sporting world which sees Sorare’s unique ability to connect supporters to their favorite sports, while relying on NFTs to build projects for the future ”, welcomes Nicolas Julia, CEO and founder of Sorare.
Cards to collect, but also to play
Founded in 2018, Sorare was created on two principles: to enable the collection of items based on the blockchain and make it a game of football fantasy worldwide. For the first point, Sorare cards are therefore NFTs, which means that each card is unique and that its ownership can be verified publicly via the blockchain. Sorare sets up a card exchange platform, which allows us to build our team as we see fit.
On this platform, users can then form a team of five players: a goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder, a striker and a substitute. Managers register these teams in different tournaments, each meeting their own criteria for participation, such as the player’s age or the region in which their club operates. Sorare relies on the actual performance of players to determine the outcome of matches and assign a score in the leaderboard. From this note is determined a bonus which is added to the value of the cards held by the “manager”.
Sorare, which has nearly 500,000 registered users on its platform, aims to partner with the 20 best football leagues in the world by the end of 2022. We could therefore soon see this applied to our national Ligue 1 and “messianic”.
