(Teleborsa) – The renewable energy storage company Gelion in collaboration with theUniversity of Sydney presented the battery Gelion Endure which uses an al gelatin technology zinc bromide able to operate in extreme stress conditions. The battery is designed to overcome the limitations of traditional lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries and can work at temperature up to 50 degrees without requiring cooling and withstand temperatures up to over 600 degrees without catching fire. Such a solution would remove the need for expensive installations auxiliaries, such as fire suppression and air conditioning systems, thus significantly reducing operating costs.
A technology suitable for locality remote, especially in the agricultural and mining sectors. Zinc bromide is conventionally used in high-flow batteries, not suitable for mass production. The research team, led by technology inventor Thomas Maschmeyer, reformatted the chemical approach, converting it to a more versatile gelatin formulation. Gelion’s general manager, Gaby Palmer, plans to launch full operability in order to launch the production by the end of the year, initially for the domestic market.
“We are proud of our association with Gelion and with the innovative application of a fundamental technology directed at its commercialization,” said the rector of the University of Sydney, Mark Scott. And according to the Australian Government Special Adviser on Low Emission Technologies, Alan Finkel, “There is a growing enthusiasm for energy storage in the minds and willingness of investors.”
