(Teleborsa) – More and more cashless and digital: this is the photograph of tourism in Italy taken fromCashless Tourism Observatory carried out by SumUp, a fintech active in the sector of digital payments and innovative cashless solutions, which analyzed average transactions and average transaction value per merchant recorded in the summer months (1 June-15 August), by hotels and other accommodation facilities, tour operators, wellness centers, but also bars, clubs and restaurants.
According to SumUp, in fact, the value of the average cashless transaction of merchants operating in the Tourism and Catering sectors, after decreasing from 2019 to 2020 by 9%, grew by 46% in the last year and, comparing 2021 with 2019, an increase of 32% is observed.
Trend also confirmed by the average number of transactions per merchant: the data show a 71% growth between 2020 and 2021: between 2019 and 2021, the increase is of 113%. “The tourism numbers fit perfectly into the digital revolution that has characterized the country in the last two years, also due to the pandemic, and which has had important implications especially as regards payments”, comments Umberto Zola, Country Growth Lead Italy of SumUp.
“Cashless solutions are increasingly appreciated and used by both traders, customers, on the one hand for the possibility of integrating physical and online cashiers more easily, on the other for security, since they ensure distancing, avoiding the exchange of cash and the creation of queues and gatherings at the cashier ”. In first place Trieste, which has climbed the ranking (from 25th place in 2019); per second Livorno, which in 2019 was even at the 46th. Bronze medal a Vibo Valentia, in Calabria, which conquers the third position.
