(Teleborsa) – Over one billion euros distributed economic value on the territory of the province of Milan, 184 million euros invested for the maintenance and the plant development, 707 million euros of orders to providers local, 610 hiring in the Milan offices (40% under 30). These are the main numbers contained in the fifth edition of the Milan Territorial Sustainability Report of the multi-utility A2A, presented today by president Marco Patuano and CEO Renato Mazzoncini. In the province of Milan, A2A deals with waste management, the production, distribution and sale of energy and gas, the district heating network, electric mobility and public lighting.
“A2A has continued its growth path strengthening its ability to generate value in the territories where it operates, despite a 2020 marked by great difficulties for the whole community – commented Mazzoncini – Last year the group contributed to supporting the socio-economic development of the Milan area with over one billion euros of distributed value, with an increase of 58% compared to to 2019, and 184 million euros of investments in infrastructure. In this context, orders to local suppliers have more than doubled, from 325 to 707 million euros ”. “The group’s activities in Milan make tangible what it means to be one for A2A life company: taking care of people’s well-being and the quality of their lives every day, through innovative and sustainable services and technologies ”, added Patuano.
The recycling in the city and province of Milan in 2020 it exceeded 64%, reaching 62.6% in the city and 67.6% on average in the province. Of the total of over 747 thousand tons of municipal waste collected in the area, 64% was destined for material recovery and 36% was sent to waste-to-energy plants: no urban waste went to landfills. Thanks to the waste, over 307 GWh of electric energy – equal to the average annual consumption of 114,000 families – and over 456 GWh of thermal energy – equal to the heating and hot water needs of 30,000 families. The use of the waste-to-energy plant has avoided release into the atmosphere of over 442 thousand tons of CO2 and over 96 thousand tons of oil equivalent (TOE).
In 2020 A2A supported the socio-economic development of the area by distributing approximately 1,053 million euros in the form of dividends, local taxes, orders to suppliers, fees and concessions, sponsorships and donations and remuneration of employees. 869 local suppliers were activated for a total order amount of 707 million euros: 96 million euros were billed to micro or small businesses with less than 50 employees and 3.6 million euros to social cooperatives and non-profit organizations.
The multi-utility sustainability report also highlights that the district heating provides an important contribution to the fight against climate change: in 2020 over 48,000 TOE, 2.9 tons of PM10, 121,000 tons of CO2, 25 tons of SO2 and 99 tons of NOx were saved. Furthermore, the company is present in Milan with 386 electric vehicle charging points and, in 2020, almost 73,000 refills were carried out at the columns in the Milanese Metropolitan Area, which allowed to travel about 6 million km, saving 649 tons of CO2.
