(Teleborsa) – TIM confirms himself as the protagonist ininnovation and in the development of new generation networks and services and, after the implementation of connectivity last March FTTH (Fiber To The Home) up to 10 Gigabits per second, has reached another important Italian record, which allows a technological leap for theultrabroadband su fibra ottica FTTH a 25GS-PON, capable of reaching speeds of up to 25 Gbps in download.
The experimentation was carried out in TIM laboratories in Turin, in collaboration with Nokia, using the equipment (Optical Line Terminator, OLT) already adopted in the active exchanges.
During the tests they were used simultaneously mixed technologies GPON, XGS-PON and 25GS-PON. In particular, both the transmission bandwidth capacity of the 25GS-PON system and the coexistence on the same optical fiber with the other technologies already in the field, GPON (with capacity up to 2.5Gbps in download) and XGS-PON (with capacity up to 10Gbps). This coexistence feature allows the introduction of the 25GS-PON on the same passive fiber optic infrastructure used for the current GPON and XGS-PON 10 Gbps technologies.
The new connection based on 25GS-PON technology takes full advantage of the physical characteristics of the optical fiber, multiplying the capabilities of the current FTTH GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Networks) network by 10 times in download and the FTTH XGS-PON by 2.5 times. The 25GS-PON technology will therefore be able to provide higher speed and connection capacity above all allowing companies, industrial districts and the Public Administration to meet the increasingly growing demand for connectivity to support the digitization of the country.
