(Teleborsa) – Continue a Matera it’s at Torino the program of TIM Group for the development of Open RAN solutions (Open Radio Access Network) on its mobile network, with the aim of accelerating the development of 5G digital services and Edge Computing through new functions – centralized and in the cloud – for the benefit of citizens and businesses.
TIM thus confirms itself as the only operator in Italy and among the first in Europe to have already launched a major company initiative infrastructural which favors the model of ‘net open‘. In particular, after the launch in Faenza, the first location where TIM launched the Open RAN technology, the solution was also activated in Matera, thanks to the collaboration with Mavenir for the RAN components and with MTI for the 4G Radio Unit. This solution, also developed with Dell Technologies, Intel and VMware, allows you to decouple the components (hardware and software) of the access radio, according to a logic of diversification of suppliers and with a view to favoring a wider industrial ecosystem.
Furthermore, at the TIM Innovation Lab a Torino the first connection has been made Open RAN 5G stand alone (i.e. completely independent from 4G) which will soon be activated also in the field in Matera. The record was achieved on the 3.7 GHz frequencies of TIM’s 5G network in collaboration with Mavenir for core and radio network functions, Dell Technologies and Intel for infrastructure and VMware’s Telco Cloud platform for End-to-End control. of network functions and software automation.
The development of Open RAN solutions, in line with the plan 2021-2023 ‘Beyond Connectivity’, allows you to combine the potential of the Edge Cloud and artificial intelligence. This technology allows operators to strengthen safety standards, improve network performance and optimize costs, in order to provide increasingly advanced digital services, such as those related to new solutions for Industry 4.0, the Smart City and driving. autonomous.
