The FBI is in the process of forming a new team to investigate crimes related to cryptoassets.
Announced by Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET) will assess which types of crypto-related crimes require more resources to investigate and prosecute cases.
According to the press release, prosecutor Eun Young Choi will head the team.
Announcing the new unit in a keynote speech at the Munich Cybersecurity Conference, Monaco stated that the team will conduct its own blockchain analysis and confiscate assets involved in crime.
Monaco stressed that ransomware attacks will also be a major focus.
