HP introduces in its catalog a new versatile productivity-oriented monitor. It is distinguished by its 90 Hz panel, the integration of a webcam and everything you need to make it a USB-C docking station for laptops.
HP is preparing to market a new USB-C monitor reference designed for professionals who need a webcam but not necessarily a 4K panel, and want to limit the use of cables. The Z24m G3 is a 23.8″ screen with a definition of 2560 x 1440 pixels (which gives a resolution of 123 ppi), with a USB-C socket that can support Power Delivery up to 100 W. HP indicates that this screen is adapted to the needs of professionals and creators thanks to an average colorimetric drift of less than a Delta E of 2, and with respect of 99% of the sRGB space and 90% of the DCI-P3 space.
If HDR support is included, the maximum brightness of the panel (400 cd / m²) and its contrast (1000:1) will limit the effects. On the other hand, it is interesting to see that the on-board panel supports a refresh rate of 90 Hz, which will undeniably provide increased user comfort compared to a conventional 60 Hz screen. Not enough, however, to make it a monitor particularly suitable for gaming, the gray to gray response time being 5 ms.
A real smart webcam docking station
From the upper top edge of the screen stands out a large block that incorporates the 5-megapixel webcam. This is not removable but still retractable, and has the advantage of carrying a laser sensor which makes it eligible for authentication by Windows Hello facial recognition (just position yourself in front of the screen to unlock his Windows session). Another sensor, proximity, also allows you to lock or wake up the computer if you move away from it or move back in front of it.
This webcam is also capable of tracking movement, so as to keep the user in the center of the image if he were to move away from the screen and move. A feature designed for videoconferences which will also benefit from the integration of microphones (with reduction of ambient noise) and two speakers with a power of 5 W.
Also note the existence of a perfectly identical HP Z24q, but which does not offer the webcam. It may in particular be chosen in the context of a configuration with two screens which these references adapt well thanks to their thin edges. The Z24s are also mounted on ergonomic feet with height adjustment, rotation and swivel, and can be connected to the chain via DisplayPort 1.4 which supports up to three QHD monitors. There is also an HDMI 2.0 port, an RJ45 port and four USB-A ports, enough to transform the screen into a real USB-C workstation.
The first units could be delivered in July, but no information has leaked regarding the price of the HP Z24m and Z24q.
