If the compression of the purchasing power given by inflation, energy and otherwise, was not enough, along with the holidays comes the increase in motorway tolls. Which in this summer 2022 could see an upward adjustment of 1.5%. The forecast, according to the most detailed calculation, is an increase in1,58%.
The decision, Aspi explained in a note, is only in the preliminary phase and will be decided by the competent authorities after four years of blockade, but it is foreseeable on the basis of the ‘calm’ rules provided by the Transport Authority.
Increase after 4 years
Autostrade per l’Italia highlights that the remodeling provides for a controlled update of + 1.5% of the toll, after a 4-year tariff freeze period, starting from 2018. It is clarified, Aspi adds, that the tariff revision, having already been inserted in the Pef (the Economic and Financial Plan of Autostrade per l’Italia) it precedes and therefore is not consequential to the current increase in material costs.
What Autostrade says
“Since 2018 we have never increased the rates – explains theAspi CEO Roberto Tomasi -. We currently have a rate increase forecast of 1.58%, which compared to the numbers we are seeing are absolutely laughable. We are, I believe, a system of concessions that is supporting this price increase, we must manage it with great caution, as has been done ”, said Tomasi, on the sidelines of the seminar“ The network of the future. Aspi dialogues with the territory ”, dedicated to the plan to upgrade and modernize the motorway network in Tuscany.
“We come out with a very high head – commented Tomasi – compared to the increases that all the other commodities have had in this period. It is a ridiculous increase, linked to the approval of the economic and financial plan “.
Need to invest
“In these first six months of 2022 we have had an important increase in terms of material costs that vary from 20 to 30% on average, then there are price items with increases even higher than this. But it cannot be a mechanism by which we block our investments. Indeed, we must continue to invest in the hope that then there is also a speculative element in this phase that can somehow return, we cannot help but think about it ”, she observed.
The prices of energy and raw materials, which rose after the invasion of Russia in Ukraine, also weighs on the numerous construction sites that Autostrade per l’Italia has around the country. For Tomasi, in fact, it is “a serious problem: in these first six months we have had an important increase in terms of material costs which vary from 20 to 30% on average, then there are price items with increases even higher than this”. Tomasi, however, specified that these additional expenditure items will not slow down the company’s investment plan.
