There are situations and historical moments in which the world seems to go upside down and plunge into a spiral of violence between nations with no apparent end. After war in Ukraine and the crisis in the Taiwan Strait (is China preparing to invade the island? Where and how it can attack), with a consequent tightening of relations between Beijing and Washington, tension is rising again in the Middle East area as well. The Israeli army has returned to attack the Gaza Stripalso hitting civilian buildings and causing several victims.
Israel Air Raids in the Strip: What’s Happening
The Israelis called it “Breaking Dawn”, “Dawn”, the operation launched against targets in the Gaza Strip. The airstrikes also targeted the center of Gaza City, hitting an apartment in the Burj Palestine (“Tower of Palestine”), an office building, causing the death of at least 10 people, including a 5-year-old girl, and dozens of injured. The military operation in the Palestinian enclave, the Jewish state said, was launched in response to the continuing threats of the previous days by the Movement for Islamic Jihad in Palestineknown in Italy with the simplified formula of “Islamic Jihad”. The raids then continued into the night, in what is undoubtedly there worst wave of violence for a year now.
The offensive in the Strip began with the killing of Taysir Jabari, commander of the northern sector of the organization hiding in the bombed building together with other leaders of Islamic Jihad, giving a decisive turn to the conflict that has been going on in the area for decades. Israeli officials have intimated Hamas to “stay out” of the dispute, claiming to want to lead “only” a “mini war” against Jihad. Tension with Gaza has been building for days, ever since the Israeli army arrested in the West Bank Bassen a-Saadi, leader of Islamic Jihad in the Territories. An Israeli special unit had surprised him during a brief overnight visit to his family in the Jenin refugee camp.
From that moment there have been threats from themilitary wing of the Jihad, the al-Quds brigadeswhich they put in maximum alert Israel with the closure of the crossings, the reduction of normal activities along the border, the positioning of anti-missile batteries Iron Dome around Tel Aviv and the recall of 25 thousand reservists. Threats which, inevitably, eventually resulted in one counter-offensive.
The Palestinian reaction
Immediately after the Israeli raids, they began salvoes of rockets and mortar fire from the territory of Gaza. The army has calculated between 70 and 80 those launched from the Palestinian enclave towards the south and the center of the opposing country. According to the broadcaster Kan, about 30 were intercepted, while the others fell in open areas, at sea and within the Strip itself. The al-Quds Brigades said they fired “more than a hundred rockets” on Israeli soil as a “first response” to the attacks.
The Israeli army reported for its part that at least 15 members of Islamic Jihad were killed in repeated raids on the Strip. The targets were at least 6 Jihad military facilities and artillery and rocket firing sites. During the night, rocket fire continued from Gaza towards the south and center of Israel. Sirens rang out in centers like Ashkelon, Yavne e Ashdodwith the population massed in shelters.
The United States (what in the meantime they are on their way to a total confrontation with China: Kissinger’s “catastrophic” prophecy) urged the parties to avoid escalation, but the words of the Israeli premier Yair Lapid they leave few glimmers of peace. “The government of Israel it will not allow terrorists to threaten citizens. Anyone who tries to hit us know that we will reach him ”.
