The Hipod site, which has shared every day for years a new image of the surface of Mars taken by the probe of the NasaNasa MRO (Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter) and its high camera resolutionresolution HiRIse just released one that is as fun as it is intriguing.
Amusing, because we easily recognize the head of a schematized bear with its muzzle, its very evocative mouth and two small eyeseyes rounds well placed and punched by meteoritesmeteorites which left impact craters. Looks like Teddy bear. All this skilfully arranged inside a large circle with irregular lines that one might think were voluntary to imitate the fur of a bear. Of course, it depends on the angle from which one discovers pareidolia, and it is characteristic of humans to see the representation of a bear in it.
Intriguing, the image is also intriguing by its geological characteristics and their enigmatic origins… So what is this large circle with chopped lines? What is this muzzle and this indentation, or cut, made of which gives us the illusion of its mouth? NASA says the researchers aren’t sure of their interpretation, but the drawing of the head is probably, geologically speaking, the outline of a crater which, after its formation, was either filled with material or underwent a floodflood mud. As for the outgrowth of the muzzle, it is probably a volcano — therefore a mouth, both literally and figuratively — which spewed up in the distant past of the makemakeand otherwise mud.
The image was taken on December 12, 2022, 251 kilometers above the region of Land of the Sirens in L’southern hemispheresouthern hemisphere Of March. The NASA site offers to admire the drawing in relief in its context with 3D glasses.
