Since 2018 and the announcement of a plan to make France a world leader in artificial intelligence, the government has displayed its ambitions in the sector. To achieve the executive’s objectives in this technological field, Sylvie Retailleau, Minister of Higher Education and Research, and Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister Delegate in charge of the Digital Transition and Telecommunications, have appointed Guillaume Avrin to the post national coordinator for artificial intelligence.
In this context, he will be responsible for ensuring the interministerial coordination of the national artificial intelligence strategy. For this, the government had allocated an envelope of 1.5 billion euros between 2018 and 2022, before implementing in November 2021 a new national plan of 2.2 billion euros, which is part of as part of the France 2030 plan. This second phase is mainly dedicated to training and the development of breakthrough technologies.
