Chez Digital, we are faithful to good habits: every Monday, we help you choose the best among the new streaming platforms. Here’s what to watch on Netflix, Disney+, Canal+ and Amazon Prime Video during the week starting January 30, 2023.
This week, we recommend the series Philadelphia et Black Heartsand movies Interstellar, Kingdom of Heaven et Mommy.
Philadelphia (Disney+)
Four immature friends who run an Irish pub in Philadelphia try to fit into the adult world of work and social relationships. But their shortcomings and their prejudices cause them to encounter many problems which produce just as many uncomfortable situations.
That’s it, fans of It’s Always Sunny in Phadelphia (translated as sad Philadelphia in VF) will be able to catch up with the arrival of seasons 8 to 15 of the cult series on the streaming platform. Still just as crazy, deliciously stupid and addictive: we confirm that it’s still just as fun to have fun with Charlie, Mac, Dee, Dennis and Frank… Enough to keep us waiting until seasons 16 to 18, already announced . From January 30 on Disney+.

In the near future, when the Earth is bloodless, a group of explorers uses an interstellar ship to rush into a wormhole allowing them to travel distances hitherto impassable. Their goal: to find a new home for humanity.
When Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight) tackles the science fiction film, the result is bound to be memorable. Interstellar manages to combine the epic breath of a space adventure, a thrilling thematic richness that questions global warming and our responsibility for future generations, and an overwhelming philosophical depth. Nolan certainly handles big strings, but he does it brilliantly, and delivers one of the great anticipation films of recent years, served (icing on the cake) by a five-star cast. From February 1 on Netflix.

Kingdom of Heaven (Canal+)
Balian the blacksmith discovers that his father is a Crusader lord, shortly before he dies and his lands in Jerusalem return to him. Having left there, he sided with the faithful of King Baudouin, who were trying to maintain a fragile balance between the Crusaders and the troops of Saladin. But the king being dying, many are those who oppose him and the peace.
After the worldwide success of the peplum Gladiator (2000), Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner) tackles the large-scale crusade film with Kingdom of Heaven. The feature film has all the characteristics of a director’s production: neat photography, breathtaking staging, a sense of the epic and an archetypal narrative as desired. Failed when it was released in 2005, Kingdom of Heaven is a masterpiece worth rediscovering, if only for its stunning battle sequences and stellar cast. From February 1 on Canal+ and its myCanal streaming platform.

black hearts (Prime Video)
Iraq, October 2016, eve of the battle of Mosul. A French special forces commando is tasked with finding and exfiltrating from the city the daughter and grandson of an important French Islamist official whom they have captured and who sets this prerequisite for his collaboration.
First collaboration between Amazon Prime Video and France Télévisions, Black Hearts is signed by Dang Thai Duong and Corinne Garfin, screenwriters of the Office of Legends. A six-episode dive into the heart of a special forces team that promises to intertwine geopolitical tensions, intimate human dramas, and intense action scenes. From February 3 on Amazon Prime Video.

Mommy (Canal+)
A widow wins custody of her son, a deeply rambunctious teenager. Together, they try to make ends meet, thanks in particular to the unexpected help of the mysterious neighbor opposite, Kyla. All three find a form of balance and, soon, hope.
Mommy is undoubtedly the most accomplished film by talented Quebec director Xavier Dolan. The intimate portrait of a mother and her unmanageable son, through the banal but heartbreaking vagaries of life. Sometimes tender and poignant, sometimes pop and solar, Dolan handles his delicate subject and his aesthetic with mastery and takes us on a torrent of emotions. The central duo Anne Dorval / Antoine Olivier Pilon is mind-bogglingly authentic. A real masterpiece. From February 3 on Canal+ and myCanal, and also available on Netflix.
