That the fans of One Piece rejoice: the adaptation signed by Netflix in real shots (or live action) of the cult manga is on the horizon. The streaming platform announced it on its networks through two promising first visuals.

Luffy a chair et an us
Announced in 2020 and long awaited by its aficionados, the live series of Eiichirō Oda’s manga is finally unveiled. On the poster shared by Netflix, we can see Luffy, the protagonist of One Piece, back facing an ocean full of promise and adventure. The banner shows us a little more with a glimpse of Luffy’s first four companions (Zorro, Usopp, Sanji and Nami) and their ship, the Vogue Merry.
Something to lift (a little) the veil on a series that is still very mysterious. Little information is known about this adaptation, except that it will be released in the course of 2023 and that its first season will consist of 12 episodes which will cover the first 12 volumes of the manga corresponding to Saga East Blue.
This adaptation is co-created by Steven Maeda (Lost, Lie to Me) and Matt Owens (Luke Cage, Marvel: Agents of SHIELD). The main role of Luffy is played by Iñaki Godoy, crossed in particular in the series Who killed Sara? The main cast also includes Emily Rudd (Hunters) to Nami, Jacob Gibson (Grey’s Anatomy) a Usopp, Taz Skylar (The Lazarus Effect) en Sanji et Mackenyu (Full Metal Alchemist) in Zoro.
Pending a real trailer in the coming weeks, Netflix unveiled a video making of last year, providing an overview of filming, sets and preparatory drawings for the series. Convinced?

Hopefully Netflix will do better than its previous live-action adaptations of cult manga and anime. Cowboy Bebop, Death Note et Full Metal Alchemist were far from convincing and this series One Piece will have the daunting task of reversing the trend. Response in 2023.
