Some families may have to return part of thesingle check erroneously disbursed in 2022.
These are the first adjustments which provide for the return of amounts of the single check received unduly and the reduction of sums paid and not due. In particular, INPS is remedying the situation of seven months (from March to September) with a surcharge of 30 euros paid erroneously. For this reason, beneficiaries could be asked to pay back a sum that could reach up to 210 euros per child.
Single allowance, who are the families involved
Since last October the single check has been reduced, compared to the previous months, to about one million single parent familieswho have seen the increase subtracted from the monthly feeup to 30 eurosrecognized in the event that both parents have an income from work.
This is an increase recognized by article 4, paragraph 8 of legislative decree no. 230/2021, “in the event that both parents have income from work, an increase is foreseen for each minor child“. This increase is equal to 30 euros with Isee equal to or less than 15 thousand euros and gradually decreases until it is canceled with Isee equal to or greater than 40 thousand euros. It can go up to 60 euros a month with two dependent children, 90 euros with three and so on.
Because INPS is asking for the return of part of the single check
The decree does not mention nuclei consisting of a single parent: for this reason, when the single allowance is sent, many families single parents however, they requested the increase, also because the requirements were not clearly specified in the INPS application form.
So initially the increase was recognized even for single parents who, at the time of the application, declared that they were working and entitled to it (albeit in the absence of a second parent with a second income).
Inps, therefore, initially paid the increase requested when applying for a single check, but then stop it from October 2022. Applying the provisions of the decree, the National Social Security Institute has decided to recognize the increase only to nuclei in which both parents are present.
Since then single parent families they stopped receiving the surchargehoping in vain for a correction of the law with the 2023 budget law.
Single check, how much the families will have to repay
The INPS is now forced to rectify the situation of the seven months’ salary with an increase paid erroneously and could ask for the repayment of the sums unduly received.
Beneficiaries could be asked back a sum that could go up to 210 euros per child (30 euros for seven months). In the case of a widowed mother with two minor children, the total amount would therefore be 420 euros. A single father with three children may have to pay back 630 euros.
