A little over six months after the release of the first version, Nothing confirms a second edition of its smartphone. The London company will offer a version by the end of 2023 “plus premium” of its flagship product. An announcement from the brand’s CEO, Carl Pei, during an interview with Inverse.
The American market, next step for Nothing
Driven by a sharp increase in turnover in 2022, Nothing has been able to strengthen its teams from 200 people in 2021 to 400 today. New resources which ensure the company the forthcoming launch on the American market of the Nothing Phone (2). With smartphone sales slowing across the Atlantic, Carl Pei suggests the timing is optimal to compete with conventional phone makers.
A new software layer?
The iconic co-founder of OnePus did not fail to teaser the major changes to come. Thus, the Nothing Phone (2) should be a more upscale smartphone, with a price that could however remain reasonable. The characteristic transparent design of the Phone (1) could be renewed. Will we see a real hardware update? Pei refuses to answer but promises increased performance, driven by much more elaborate software.
As a reminder, NothingOS, the software overlay of the smartphone is currently very refined, and offers a rather qualitative user experience. “Today our team has almost 100 software people, and I’ve brought in a lot of people I used to work with“, says Carl Pei. The latest version of the program should thus create a “really fast and smooth experience.” At the same time, the smartphone manufacturer expects to open new commercial stores in several regions of the world.
