Since Discord’s January 25, 2023 update, which introduced support for the AV1 video format, some Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 graphics card users have seen the video memory clock drop by 200 MHz with Discord launched. Thus, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, with an in-game operating frequency of 7000 MHz, remain stuck at 6800 MHz.
Nvidia is already aware of the issue and has a rather tedious workaround that prevents Discord from throttling video memory speed. The less adventurous will have to be patient and watch for an update of the Nvidia drivers.
The new version of Discord activates support for the AV1 format for streaming, especially for RTX 40 users. AV1 allows a reduction in bandwidth of 40% with the same quality as the H.264 format. Oddly, users of an RTX 40 card are not impacted.
