Director James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), the new big boss of the DCEU with producer Peter Safran, has just announced his plan for the “next eight to ten years” and the start of films and series in cinemas and on HBO Max.
These incorporate a “chapter 1” titled Gods & Monsters (gods and monsters in French) and which will begin in 2025. The avowed objective is to produce two new films and as many series per year, on the model of Marvel and its MCU.

Before presenting his various productions, Gunn gave an update on the films of the universe not yet released, and confirms this schedule:
- Shazam! The Rage of the Gods : 29 mars 2023
- The Flash : June 14, 2023
- Blue Beetle : August 16, 2023
- Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom : December 20, 2023
In addition, here is the detailed list of the 10 films and series of Gods & Monsters.
Films
Superman: Legacy
Written by James Gunn himself, the next adventure of the iconic son of Krypton will not be a origin story and will tell the tension felt by Clark Kent between his superhero life and the ordinary life he leads on Earth. A new actor will play the superhero. Gunn may also be directing the film, which is slated for release on July 11, 2025.

The Authority
Also in full development, this adaptation of the comic series created in 1999 will follow the adventures of a team of superheroes tortured between their good intentions and the extreme means they must use to save the world. A starting point that will remind some of the series The Boys.
The Brave and the Bold
Based on the version of Black Knight signed Grant Morrisson, this film centered on Batman and Robin will tell the story of a Bruce Wayne discovering the existence of his son Damian. Bruce will have to take this one back in hand, far from his education as a young assassin. Batman will be played by a brand new actor (so no Robert Pattinson or Ben Affleck) and the film will introduce other members of the Bat-family.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
After being entitled to her series (2015 to 2021), Superman’s cousin will (finally) have her film. Based on the work of author Tom King, a stakeholder in the project, this adaptation will see a heroine destroyed, left to live on a piece of Krypton adrift in space. Far from the more enviable fate of Kal-El, the film will explore the life of the one who was forced to see her entire family die tragically.
Swamp Thing
A film that will tell the dark origins of Swamp Thing (alias The Creature of the Swamp), a cult DC Comics character created in 1971. This elemental creature with superhuman strength is endowed with the power of regeneration, previously the researcher Alec Holland. If few details have been given, it is possible that this feature film will be directed by James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones 5).

A prequel series to Wonder Woman in the spirit of Game of Thrones. In any case, this is how Gunn presents this project which will tell the origins of the island of Themyscira before Diana Prince, and the power play that takes place there.
Lanterns
This series in the spirit of True Detective (dixit James Gunn) will chronicle the investigations and adventures of Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Steward as they serve as super-cops on Earth.

And that’s not all ! James Gunn has confirmed a sequel to the film The Batman by Matt Reeves. Soberly titled The Batman Part II, this sequel will hit theaters on October 1, 2025 and will see the return of Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight. So there will be two incarnations of Batman in theaters at the same time.
This film, like Joker: madness for two currently being filmed, exists apart from the DCEU and in what James Gunn calls the DC Elseworlds.
