We givethe so-called “Twitter killer” built on a decentralized network, was released on the Apple App Store.
On January 31st the Damus team he confirmed approval to his 11,500 Twitter followers, following at least three rejections from Big Tech.
Soon after, Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter and collaborator of Nostr, shared the news with his 6.5 million followers, calling it a “milestone” for open-source protocols:

The application defines itself “the social network you control” ed is a messaging service built on Our — a decentralized network that allows, among other things, encrypted end-to-end private messaging.
It intends to become a social media platform with content uncensored. According to a post by Protos published on January 27, the service also includes payments integrated through Bitcoin’s layer-2 Lightning Network (BTC).
The network is not managed by servers. Instead, Nostr uses decentralized relays to distribute messages.
Nostr developers are also focused on using Bitcoin and the Lightning Network to prevent distributed denial-of-service spam attacks on the Damus app.

According to the team’s GitHub page, 44 different software developers have contributed code to the Damus web application.

The publication of Damus on the Apple App Store didn’t go without problems, since the Twitter page of the messaging app wrote that it had failed at least three attempts before finally being approved:
We responded again clarifying where and how all these features are implemented. That’s all we can do at the moment….

William Casarin, one of the lead developers of Nostr, has shared his frustration on his personal Twitter account, stating that it would be a “Sin” if Apple users couldn’t use Nostr natively.
While the exact partnership between Dorsey and Nostr, in mid-December the billionaire entrepreneur sent 14 BTC — worth about $250,000 — to help the Nostr.
While the news appears to have raised the app’s visibility among the Bitcoin community, many other high-profile figures have tested the Damus app.
Among them, the co-founder of Ethereum Vitalik Buterinl’ex contractor della National Security Agency (NSA) statunitense e whistleblower Edward Snowden and the pro-crypto US Senator Cynthia Lummis.
One of the cool things about Nostr (“Notes and other things relayed by relays,” a new decentralized protocol that replaces things like Twitter and Instagram)—as well as resistance to censorship—is that you’re not limited to 280 characters.

At the time of writing, the Damus web application has experienced problems. A warning message on the site’s homepage reads:
“Damus Web is down because someone is trying to exploit browser flaws to steal private keys. We advise against using a web client at this time. Damus iOS is not involved.”
