From fitness to beauty treatments: there are many ways in which Italians spend their free time taking care of themselves and spending large, constantly growing figures, also helped by installment payment methods. This is what emerges from the last one Compass Observatory on Wellnessaccording to which more than the half of respondents (56%) has invested time and money in wellness and taking care of your body.
If in 2022 help also came from the spa bonus, attention to oneself, in a broader sense, could grow further in 2023, both in terms of enrollments in gyms and sports centers and in treatments: from massages to spas , from the dietician to the cosmetic surgeon.
The average spending is growing
The survey reveals that there are those who prefer to keep fit by practicing sport and doing fitness (26%) and who chooses to take care of their appearance through beauty treatments (12%). In any case, in 2022, the Italians they spent an average of 458 euros for their psychophysical well-being, but the amount is higher for those who have dedicated themselves to sport, with an average expenditure of 483 euros for gymsswimming pools and sports centres.
In 2023, the budget dedicated to physical activity could increase to almost 600 euros, with a potential growth of 29% in gym memberships. In 2023 about 1 in 3 respondents among those who have never been enrolled in a gym or sports center (29%), will consider doing sowith a greater propensity detected by men (34%), Gen X (35%) and young Gen Z (44%).
What will pull more in 2023?
56% of Italians who took care of themselves during 2022 turned to dieticians and nutritionists (15%), a beauty centres (21%) e thermal (15%),. It is mainly women who spend on beauty treatments (32% against 9% of men).
Gender equality instead in the use of surgeries (4% for both sexes), a particularly expensive type of service for which in 2022 the cost was around 1,400 euros.
And for 2023? The shared goal is “to take better care of yourself”, so that half of Italians will pay more attention to feeding (53%) or who will focus onphysical activity (50%). 30%, on the other hand, will also take care of their well-being through beauty treatments. In the generational comparison, Gen X is much more attentive to the body (39%), while Gen Z prefers the sport (70%) and the care of psychophysical well-being (68%).
The “Buy Now Pay Later” formula is a valid ally
Il Buy Now Pay Later, the payment solution that allows you to defer an expense without additional costs for the customer, is known by 4 out of 10 Italians (42%), a value that increases among Millennials (51%) and can represent an additional tool for investing in self-care. 1 out of 10 respondents has already used itwith 44% deeming it particularly useful for making wellness treatments more accessible.
But the good news is that about 1 out of 4 Italians (23%) see Buy Now Pay Later as a fundamental incentive to practice more sportswith a peak of 34% among those who already plan to exercise and 35% among those who already have a good knowledge of the service.
A solution considered particularly advantageous to the point that 35% of those who join the gym and 39% of those who resort to wellness and beauty treatments do not rule out taking it into consideration also to increase spending overall.
