Russian lawmakers demanded changes to billing amid debates over the digital ruble.
The digital ruble project is still being discussed at the Russian parliamentary sessions. Lawmakers proposed significant changes to the bill aimed at replacing the original document on debt transactions, services for non-residents and the role of the central bank.
Russian Lawmakers Demand Changes in Billing of Digital Ruble
On May 22, Russian state-owned news agency Interfax reported a package of recommendations formulated by the Financial Market Committee of the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian Federal Assembly, in preparation for the second reading of the digital ruble.
Lawmakers propose to ban the Bank of Russia from participating in the financing of companies. Additionally, she wants to leave him the role of operating the digital ruble platform alone. The changes will also oblige the central bank to defend the private data of customers who are employees of the Federal Security Service.
The new draft also proposes easier access to the central bank digital currency (CBDC) platform for non-residents through foreign banks, which will receive approval to join the platform.
The change effort of Russian lawmakers is still under discussion and has not been decided yet.
