Argentine authorities are investigating the cryptocurrency project WorldCoin over privacy concerns.
In an announcement on August 8, Agency for Access to Public Information (AAIP) Argentina said it is investigating WorldCoin regarding the collection, storage and use of customer data to ensure compliance with security and privacy regulations. WorldCoin (WLD) launched its token project in July with the aim of verifying users via retinal scanning, raising privacy concerns.
“Whenever provided with personal data, citizens have the right to receive clear and accessible information regarding the destination, use and purpose for which the data is collected and processed, in particular with respect to sensitive data such as biometric data “AAIP said.

More than 2 million accounts had signed up for WorldCoin, ahead of the token launch in July. However, following the deployment of retinal scanners, Germany’s Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision announced an investigation into privacy concerns, while the French National Commission on Informatics and Liberty called the project’s data collection methods “questionable”.
On August 2, Kenya’s Minister of Homeland Security announced that the country would suspend WorldCoin operations until authorities had an opportunity to assess the potential risks to residents. On August 7th, local news reported that Kenyan police raided WorldCoin assets and seized equipment that may have contained user data.
