Office 2016 and 2019: Microsoft announces end of support, hence security updates

Microsoft does not support its operating systems and software indefinitely, which means the end of security updates. We’ve also recently seen the Redmond firm suggest switching to Windows 11, or even buying a new compatible PC, to prepare for the end of Windows 10 updates in October 2025.

A similar pattern has just occurred for the Office suite of software. A new post from Microsoft on its forum portends a sad future for Office 2016 and Office 2019, Nevin reports. At the same time as Windows 10.

Microsoft explains that the end of support for Office 2016 and Office 2019 means that those versions will no longer benefit:

  • Security patches for discovered vulnerabilities that could directly expose devices, applications, or servers to security breaches.
  • Bug fixes for discovered issues that may affect product stability and usability.
  • Technical support in case of problem

“Continuing to use products after they are no longer supported can negatively impact an organization’s security, compliance, and productivity”thus characterizes American society. It also includes tips to help users transition to new solutions.

For those with the Office 2019 and Office 2016 suites, Microsoft offers to go through their Microsoft 365 subscriptions or choose their new Ultimate Office 2024 license. Please note, look for Office 2021 for sale on various merchant sites. It is still possible to do. A very accessible price.
