The Sahara is one of the driest environments in the world and yet the desertthe desert North Africa experienced torrential rains in the month of September. Some areas of the desert received more than 200 mm of rain in just two days, equivalent to more than a year’s worth of rain. Tagounite, a southern region of Morocco, received about 100 mm of rain in 24 hours. According to Morocco’s national meteorology, it has been 30 to 50 years (depending on the location) that the Sahara has had this much rain.
