It will come as no surprise to anyone: Google Maps is the world’s most popular geolocation service. And for good reason: it integrates directly into Google, and is one of the first results as soon as you type a location into the search engine. What we didn’t know, however, was the extent of this popularity. On Tuesday, October 29, Alphabet was able to reveal some of its key figures for the third quarter of 2024. Among them, we specifically learned that Google Maps is used by 2 billion people a month. In short, this means that one out of every four people in the world uses Google Maps at least once a month.
Google beat des records
While this statistic is particularly impressive, it’s not the only one Google has shared. Thus we know that the firm enjoyed a turnover of $88.27 billion in the July/September period. This is 15% higher than the 77 billion recorded during the third quarter of 2023. YouTube alone reported 10% of that total, with 8.92 billion in the same period, (compared to 7.95 billion a year ago). In other words, the accounts are good at Google and Alphabet, and the trend is once again upward.
Google also shared some information about the features recently launched by the firm: We were able to discover that Circle to Search is now available on more than 150 million Android models. Google Lens is also very successful, generating more than 20 billion searches per month. Additionally, Alphabet is seeing huge growth for Gemini, which is now 14 times more used than six months ago. In short, all of these figures are meant to show the public Google’s impact on the world, and to signal the overall good health of the multinational alphabet.
