But that’s not all because the National Commission for Information Technology and Liberties (CNIL) allows you to file a complaint at this address. But it is also possible to submit a request through a form at cybermalveillance.gouv.fr from 31 October.

Free subscribers, it is possible to file a complaint.

Free has since confirmed that a hack into the management tool exposed the personal data of a number of landline and mobile subscribers. While the hacker talks about the IBANs of 19.2 million users and 5.1 million Freebox subscribers, the database was reportedly sold for $175,000.

Since then, victims have received two emails. The first mentioned the hacking, then the second mentioned the respective IBANs.

The CNIL therefore reminds that victims can file a complaint with it for a lack of data protection or as a result of identity theft, fraud or fraud.

Experts have since issued several recommendations:

  • Increased monitoring of bank accounts
  • Setting up a white list with your bank to control your direct debit
  • Changing passwords
  • Enabling two-factor authentication

Vigilance is also recommended in view of fraud attempts and scams such as fake bank advisors that can benefit from this stolen data.

Although the IBAN alone does not (theoretically) allow unauthorized direct debits, its association with other data and false signatures can facilitate the creation of false direct debit mandates with banks.
