Aiming to differentiate its range, Apple is quite coy around the panels of its devices. In fact, the iPad Pro, iPhone Pro and MacBook Pro are arguably the best, with more advanced technologies (Mini LED and OLED) and better display frequencies (Pro Motion).
However, all is not lost for other headed products. The Upgrade podcast from November 4, 2024, hosted by Myke Hurley and Jason Snell, actually discusses news for the iPad Air, 24-inch iMac and Studio Display refresh rate.
According to an anonymous source who spoke with the two podcasters, Apple will consider moving all three devices to the 90Hz world. Except for the traditional one. 60 Hz panel of its predecessor.
This is the first time we’ve heard about this potential development that will eventually improve the fluidity of the screens on Apple tablets, with the exception of the iPad Pro. In fact, the Apple firm’s high-end tablets have benefited from ProMotion since 2017, with the 24-120 Hz compatible refresh rate also dropping to 10-120 Hz with the iPad Pro M4 in 2024.
Note that it won’t be long before we know if the iPad Air M3 will have 90Hz panels, with Mark Gorman recently stating that the new generation will arrive in early 2025. It is most likely to launch with the iPhone SE 4 in March.
