Fall sales forecast
Originally, Nintendo was counting on 13.5 million Switches sold, but the target was raised to 12.5 million, a drop of one million. The decline is accompanied by a 5.2 percent decline in revenue forecasts. The company is targeting 1.28 trillion yen, or $8.41 billion, although expected net profit remains flat.
Nintendo’s last fiscal year, ending in March 2024, was satisfactory. The movie Super Mario Bros And the latest creation of The Legend of Zelda contributed to its popularity. But as the company points out in its documents for investors, as the Switch reaches its eighth year of life, “Hardware and software sales declined significantly year over year”.
Nintendo Switch sales, however, could be boosted by the Nintendo Switch Lite Hyrule Edition and other bundles.
The Nintendo Switch, the second best-selling console in the company’s history after the DS, is therefore reaching the end of its cycle. The future is focused on the next generation, which is not expected to be announced before 2025.
