As BYD ramps up production, Xiaomi is doing the same to meet rising consumer demand. The monthly capacity of SU7 will reach 24,000 units in November and December. The utilization rate of the facilities will increase by almost 200 percent.
Xiaomi increases production of its SU7.
The increase is all the more impressive because the Beijing factory, whose first phase was designed to produce 12,500 vehicles a month, was operating at 160 percent of capacity in November. Hence the company was able to deliver more than 20,000 units. Production had doubled since June after a period of maintenance and adjustment of product lines in July.
So Xiaomi can reach its 100,000 total shipment target before the end of November. The company now has an ambitious target of 120,000 vehicles for the whole of 2024. However, it should be noted that despite these efforts, the delivery time is long. We’re talking about a 21-week wait time, at least. 4,000 purchase orders per week since August.
Recall that Xiaomi has started pre-orders for its SU7 Ultra, the sports version of the electric vehicle that won at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany. The marketing plan for March 2025 is when 3,680 people reserved their copy in the first ten minutes of going online. Xiaomi is also planning three new models for the coming months.
Second step to increase production
The first phase of the factory, designed for an annual production of 150,000 vehicles, is reaching its capacity. Hence, Xiaomi is speeding up the construction of its second phase which will start work by July and August 2025. The National Business Daily Explains that teams are working on double quota on site.
