At least on paper, Samsung doesn’t modify the photo equipment of its Galaxy A15 5G. The Galaxy A16 5G is therefore equipped with a 50 Mpx main sensor with a wide angle (f/1.8), while its ultra-wide angle module is based on a 5 Mpx sensor. The third module visible on the back of the smartphone, capping at 2MPx, is dedicated to macros. Suffice it to say, it’s very anecdotal. Some competitors, like CMF’s Phone 1, have chosen a different bias and focus on a single module, promising better quality here.
Module principal: 50 Mpx, f/1,8
In bright light, the South Korean smartphone doesn’t do too badly. Sharpness is respectable, at least in the center of the image, even if we see errors in the form of small elements – as shown by our color chips, which are not actually round. On the other hand, as we approach the periphery of the scene, the sharpness of the details is lost. In good lighting conditions, the Galaxy A16 5G is close to average for smartphones in its price range.
In low light, there’s noticeable flatness that turns many details into uncomfortable flat areas of color. The lack of accuracy is evident in the center of the image, From a strong It’s best not to expect too much from the device in low-light environments in the suburbs.
Mode 50 MPX
The 50MPx mode is of little interest. Because smoothing dominates the image, cropping is unattractive for shots in bright light. In low light, images are too noisy for real use.
Module Ultra Wide Angle : 5 MPx, f/2.2
Definitely not a photographer, the Galaxy A16 5G doesn’t compensate for the distortion caused by its ultra-wide-angle optics. If you want to capture urban scenes, you risk seeing an ugly glitch that competing smartphones choose to deal with, such as the Magic 6 Lite from Honor.
Image quality obviously depends on the 5MP sensor, which is a bit light on the 2024. Colors are saturated, the picture lacks sharpness, although it is slightly sharper than its competitor. In short, this module is intended for occasional use.
In low light, the image is full of noise, details are lost and light sources stress the module. It is difficult to be satisfied with the results obtained, even if we welcome the integration of an ultra-wide angle module at this price level.
Front module, portrait and video mode
The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is equipped with the same front photo module as the Galaxy A15 5G, namely a 13 Mpx sensor associated with f/2 optics. As is often the case, the results are a bit flat and struggle to provide a controlled exposure. Portrait mode, while effective, cuts random hair a bit aggressively. On the video side, Samsung offers minimal service with a 1080p sensor at 30 fps on the front and rear.
