Panasonic Palm Shaver Review: The Cute Mini Shaver That Flatters Retinas, Breaks Ears, and Costs an Arm and a Leg

When you choose an electric razor, unless you want to completely harmonize your bathroom, it’s rare to settle on the prettiest model in the selection. Could the Panasonic Series 900s change things?

More compact than its rivals, it’s still packed with technology. Designed to minimize its environmental impact – hence its size – this model is only used for trimming beards and therefore benefits from a five-grid head which is typical of the latest. Found on devices.

Another innovation, the palm shaver ES-PV6A Serie 900S is capable of adapting the oscillation frequency of its blade according to the density of the hair thanks to its sensor (maximum 70,000 vibrations per minute). From a more aesthetic point of view, Panasonic insists on its nagori coating, a material derived from marine minerals, which has a very pleasant touch.

If we stop at this stage of presentations, there’s a good chance that the Panasonic Series 900s will appeal to the general public… unless we mention its “spicy” price of €389 at launch. .

to begin

The first surprise when you discover the Palm Shaver ES-PV6A Serie 900S is its cardboard. In fact, the packaging of razors, especially if they are exclusive, is usually very heavy. Here, we almost have the impression of dealing with a box of beautiful Tokante. Opening it up, we discover a very attentive little note from Panasonic to us and reinforce the premium side of the whole thing. For example, it is clearly stated to us that thanks to the Nagori coating, each Palm Shaver ES-PV6A Serie 900S has a unique coat. Well, a little immunity doesn’t hurt!

You have to lift the tab to reveal the razor’s faux leather pouch. It seems that it is not much, but it adds a little luxury to the original small box device, because it is also carefully finished. Opening the cover, we finally discover the razor itself. Let’s admit it: its rounded side, its flawless finish and, yes, the nagori coating, especially pleasant to the touch, are attractive.

Panasonic has paid special attention to details. For example, the Palm Shaver ES-PV6A Serie 900S has a flat base so it doesn’t sit awkwardly on the sink when not in use. In a similar vein, the part that protects the blade – often an accessory cheap — Made from the same plastic as the grills. This is rarely the case as we are usually entitled to transparent content. Plus, it uses magnetism to hold in place and creates a bit of a “wow” effect to the finish.

Panasonic has succeeded and the Palm Shaver ES-PV6A Serie 900S is a truly beautiful object, with an appearance that will not leave anyone indifferent. Very subjectively, we won.

In addition to the shaver, the box contains a USB-C charger and a USB-C to USB-A cable. Finally! In fact, Panasonic shavers until now included a proprietary charger, a source of contamination and chaos in cupboards. It would be a shame to carry such a supplement with a razor designed to respect the environment. There’s also a small brush for cleaning, as well as a traditional oil can.

But back to the Panasonic Palm Shaver ES-PV6A Serie 900S. Weighing 152 grams, it is only 7 cm long, 4 cm deep and 6 cm high. In fact, it is a simple shaving head without its handle. And we must admit that this unusual shape is much more practical to use than the classic razor. There’s less wrist twisting than a standard model, and after a few weeks of use, it’s much harder to go back to a more traditional shaving method.

Another strong point, despite the completely smooth side, the Palm Shaver ES-PV6A Serie 900S fits perfectly in the hand and does not slip, does not get wet. Because yes, it is waterproof and therefore can be used in the shower or with shaving foam. It also makes cleaning easier, but we’ll get to that later.

On the control panel side, the Palm Shaver ES-PV6A Serie 900S has a single on/off button which, when held down, also serves to turn the switch on and off. You cannot change the height of the blades or their vibration frequency. Another minor drawback is that there is no remaining battery life indicator informing the user of the remaining time to finish shaving. Otherwise, the shaver beeps twice and vibrates at the end of the shaving session to indicate that it will need to be recharged. We gain piety while losing practicality.

Moreover, the compact size of the Palm Shaver ES-PV6A Serie 900S forced Panasonic to make some concessions. The USB-A port in particular is very narrow in size and not all male plugs will fit. The cover, which protects everything from moisture, also prevents it from getting into circles because of its small size, which is difficult to handle. From a strong If you don’t have nails.

to shave

The Japanese blades of Palm Shaver ES-PV6A Serie 900S work efficiently. They cut hair without a hitch as during our few weeks of use we never felt the hair being pulled instead of being cut. Again, it doesn’t look like a hair density sensor is used. We must believe that our beards were not thick enough.

As we said, the unusual format of the 900S series is really a plus for agility. Its small size allows the user to hold it in the palm of the hand. Obviously, maneuverability doesn’t get much better than this, as you free yourself from the head joints. We go as far as possible without effort or interruption.

One of the many ways to handle the Serie 900S.

In the end, the only weak point of this Serie 900S is its maneuverability. There’s no point in hoping to shave off anything other than a beard or very short hair to create an assumed Jason Statham style.

How does ranking work?

Panasonic’s bet, namely to offer an original, attractive and innovative electric shaver (in its form, at least) and more environmentally friendly than the standard model, seems successful to us. However, the unusual architecture prevents the Palm Shaver ES-PV6A Serie 900S from taking advantage of current technological advances and, in our opinion, contributes to poor noise levels. And that’s a shame, because it turns out to be pretty simple and bland. Made in Japan Ensure perfect cutting performance. Yet it could make an (expensive) Christmas present for a dad or husband who is as keen on his hairless face as his bathroom harmony.
