Ellipse E2 ST Review: An efficient and very safe urban bike at the right price

An electrically assisted bicycle with indicators and an anti-theft alarm is not uncommon and – Coriko! – This is also a bike designed and assembled in France. Better yet, many of the ingredients are manufactured on our soil. Almost “Made in France” then!

Futura was able to test the bike for several months in a fairly steep city, a setting that puts electric-assisted bikes with belt transmissions to the test. And obviously, with this type of transmission and with all three speedspeedthe Ellipse E2 ST performed quite well. Another version equipped with chain and mechanical gears is also offered at the same price (2,490 euros).

Let’s talk about the design first. It is not unusual to see it from a distance. The design has been improved, and the battery fits into an open-frame injection tube. A unisex frame and in addition, a very practical frame that allows everyone to ride the bike with ease. Taking a closer look, we see that the bike is quite well prepared. Cables enter the main tube, nothing to say on that side. The handlebar cannot actually be raised, but its stem is adjustable to ensure a more upright and less tiring position.

High level of customization

Overall, driving comfort is quite exceptional in the model we tested. But this is a version with several options, including a fork and a suspension seat. The latter is topped with one. Sail Royal Very comfortable with the sound JailJail. Hence the bike handles road imperfections without any problem. This configuration seems ideal if you want to give this Ellipse E2 ST a bit more versatility and turn it into a VTC capable of driving on poorly paved roads.

But with the Ellipse, these items, like many others, are optional. Thus there are 12,000 possible configurations, ColorColor Including, for example, different phone holders, there are many. VariationsVariations Baskets and more PortPort-stuff, and even a The door bellThe door bell or a central stance. Also available as standard, the latter is placed in the rear by default. We found it to be quite fragile. Another point of weakness: indicators. A simple imbalance and fall when stopped due to this crutch that does not facilitate centering, and small tips. PlasticPlastic The white of these indicators has been removed from the handle. This is not a disaster, because they are easily changed. However, it’s best to refactor them correctly using the tools provided by Ellipse.

Improved security

Despite everything, the standard version of the bike has its indicators, its highly efficient headlight, its feufeu Stop, the presence of this Seal Royal and 28-inch puncture-proof Michelin tires. So thanks to comfortable and excellent brakes and above all thanks to an additional battery that allows the lighting system and indicators to remain active, even when the bike’s battery is discharged or missing. Even more secure with anti-theft hardware for wheels and even an alarm! As soon as you touch the bike it starts to sound. First by making the indicator flash slowly, then more strongly if you keep shaking it.

Better yet. It is possible to add an optional anti-theft security module. It is definitely expensive (198 euros) and requires an annual subscription of 49 euros after the first free year. This tool works with it.ApplicationApplication A homegrown structure that allows you to geo-identify a bike and track its routes and tracks. MovementsMovements. To avoid a AvalancheAvalanche A notification on the smartphone as soon as the bike moves, it is possible to track its movement.

Cycling in action!

On the power side, the 250 engine WattWattwhich is placed in the rear centre, and its 45 Nm of torque is impeccable for hill climbs and even uphill starts. This is quite remarkable, as the very nice belt-driven Tenways CGO009 we tested was not able to do this.

Shifting gears is controlled with your thumb, up or down, by clicking on the small. LCD screenLCD screen Located near the left handle it also shows the speed, battery life and if you have good eyesight, the number of kilometers traveled and other statistical information related to the use of the bike.

The indicators are activated using small buttons located next to each handle. They also shine at the end of the handles and at the back of the bike. They are especially visible at night and are also very practical when you need to signal a turn while braking on a slope. These two buttons are also used to unlock the bike by making a series of presses in a sequence predetermined by the manufacturer. For braking, there are Shimano MT 2002 hydraulic disc brakes, which are sized to ensure powerful and precise stopping.

Autonomy is enough, it will reach 100 km. But, with our steep city, this is inevitably reduced. However, with our daily commute of more than five kilometers, the bike’s electric assist made it possible to finish the week without going into the red. The removable battery charges in just under five hours.

Futura’s grandfather

We appreciated the Ellipse E2 ST for its impeccable finish, its comfort, its sturdiness and its outstanding support even when climbing steep slopes. The biggest advantage is the French ride with integrated safety equipment, all at an affordable price for a bike of this quality.
