Apple TV+: The best Prime Video-inspired feature is here, including on Android TV

This Monday, November 18, we were especially looking forward to our lunch break to catch the first episode of the second season of the excellent Apple TV+ series. The silo. After not using the Apple TV application on our Android TV for a while, we were surprised to notice during our viewing that a new feature appeared in the app’s video player. “On Screen” (“insight” in English), it more or less repeats the process of one of the main arguments of one of its competitors in the streaming field.

An ever-rich application of Apple TV

Until now, Apple TV was known for being one of the SVoD applications offering the best video and audio quality, but also for offering the most bonuses around its productions (such as series episodes plus specials). videos). Its absence on Android (but not on Android TV or recently Windows) is also one of its main features. While waiting for Apple to definitively open up something other than its own ecosystem, the application now uses Prime Video’s X-ray tool.

Clearly, while watching, an “On Screen” button allows you to directly display the names of the actors and actresses in the current scene, as well as the music being played. No more pulling out Shazam to find the name of a song or Google to find the name on the tip of your tongue. On the other hand, the search engine may still need to find where you have seen this or that person. In fact, in terms of casting, clicking on a name will give you a short bio and a list of other works featured on Apple TV+ where that person appears. Unfortunately there is no question of viewing the full filmography, while the bio is not always in French.

Already available on iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and Apple TV since last September thanks to the latest tvOS update, “On Screen” is however not yet deployed to the Windows version of Apple TV. Deployment to Android TV seems to be around late September/early October with version 15.0 of the app.
