For a device to be considered “vintage” by Apple, the firm must have stopped marketing it for at least 5 years. This is now the case for two smartphones, but also for a range of Apple Watches. When a device is considered obsolete by Apple, it means that it is still possible to request a repair from Apple, but without guarantee: the device can only be repaired if the repair Allowing parts are still available.
The iPhone XS Max and iPhone 6s Plus are now “vintage” devices.
So, starting today, the iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone XS Max are now part of Apple’s “vintage” models. As a reminder, the iPhone XS Max was marketed in September 2018, while the iPhone 6s Plus was launched on September 9, 2014, which is 10 years ago today. iPhone’s good times are already here.
Apart from these two smartphones, the Apple Watch Series 2 range is now an “obsolete” device at Apple. To be obsolete, a product must have been released from the market 7 years ago: this is the case of the Apple Watch Series 2, which was marketed in September 2016, then replaced by the Series 3 the following year. Devices considered obsolete by Apple cannot be repaired by Apple, with one exception: MacBooks can still have their batteries replaced after 10 years.
