Motorola Edge 50 Ultra hosts a complete triple photo module, with a main sensor of 50 megapixels (Mpx) with wide-angle optics (f/1.6), an ultra-wide angle of 50 Mpx (f/2) and a 64 Mpx x3 telephoto lens (f/2.4). In summary, a versatile photo shutter.
Wide-angle module: 50 Mpx, f/1.6, eq. 23 mm
At wide angle, the Edge 50 captures convincing daylight images with ultra-honest colors, though we found the sharpness and contrast lacking compared to the Xiaomi 14T Pro. Additionally, sharpness diminishes as you move away from the center of the image, and the treatment of specific details, such as the characters on tarot cards, lags behind its competitors.
In low light, the central module maintains controlled color metry and offers high contrast. Software processing also constrains the shape, which has the effect of sharpening details. In this setting, Motorola’s smartphone has an advantage over its competitor.
Ultra wide angle module: 50 Mpx, f/2, eq. 12 mm
An ultra-wide angle doesn’t often mean great results. As for the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, daytime shots are decent, but could be improved. There is a tendency toward overexposure, which distorts colors. Processing of small details also lacks accuracy, especially in the periphery, and we observe the presence of digital noise.
At night, the Edge 50 Ultra captures very smooth images to eliminate slightly noticeable digital noise. If the sharpness level is reduced, the whole thing remains readable with more natural colormetry than its competitors. However, we note a blurred and unsatisfied circle despite the well-controlled distortion.
Telephoto module x3: 64 Mpx, f/2.4, eq. 72 mm
Although, in good lighting conditions, the shots are slightly overexposed, the x3 zoom of this Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is a success. Details and small elements, such as color chips, are rendered correctly. However, light software is smooth and slightly saturated colors.
In the dark, on the other hand, if the contrast is properly managed, the result is messy and digital noise is too present despite being overly smooth. The rendering rendered by the Edge 50 Ultra, however, is acceptable for use on social networks. It should be noted that the Xiaomi model performs slightly better or worse.
Front module, portrait and video mode
The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra uses the same 50 Mpx front sensor, placed in a punch at the top of the screen as the Edge 50 Pro. It works satisfactorily for self-portraits, even if faces look a bit flat. Portrait mode is distinguished by precise clipping and a good level of detail.
As for video, the device can film up to 4K at 60 fps both front and back. Although it does not claim to compete with professional equipment, it provides ample opportunity to capture beautiful memories.
