For this AMD iteration, the Nitro V 15 uses the same design as the Intel version, not necessarily the best or smartest ever, but not terrible either. Frankly, among the range of computers of the same type currently available in the market, the Acer Nitro V 15 has the advantage of having straight lines for its silhouette, which is not always a given. We still underestimate the value of plastic cheapwhich is here is particularly sensitive to fingerprints.

As a laptop PC Gamerthe Nitro V 15 has a keyboard. Full sizeso with a numeric keypad for all those precious macros needed for an MMO raid session. Obviously, typing response is fast, suitable for target audience, but not suitable for budding writers due to lack of clear feedback. We also notice the absence of any smooth coating on the top of the keys, the kind of ephemeral choice that always wears off over time.

The touchpad, to our surprise, is large for a laptop of this ilk, but its click feedback isn’t pleasant at all. It’s the kind of support that’s so deep into the chassis that it gives the bike the impression of being broken, drastically reducing the click response and our desire to use it. And as mentioned above, plastic is also a real magnet for fingerprints, giving it a really insecure look.

Quid Connectivity, the laptop’s strong point Gaming ? Well, the Acer Nitro V 15 holds up pretty well… if we push our benchmarks back a few years. Sure, there’s nothing inherently bad about what’s on offer: an HDMI port, an RJ45 Ethernet port and four USB ports, including three USB-A to one USB-C port, sans Thunderbolt ( AMD liabilities) or power delivery. Short, at least, but we’d happily swap out one of the USB-A ports for a USB-C port with charging.

There are no miracles in terms of connectivity either which is limited to Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) capping at 2.4 Gb/s. Goodbye, potential Wi-Fi 7.
The ventilation outlet exposes the heat pipe. © Les Numériques
The Nitro V 15 opted for a ventilation outlet on the right side of the inner chassis, exposing part of its heat pipe to the copper fans one imagines. As a result, its two folded fins have difficulty circulating air, and are more pronounced than necessary. With all options maxed out, the noise peak at 56.5 dB under extreme load quickly becomes unbearable (wearing headphones is recommended). Things get progressively better with the other performance modes, without performing any miracles, emptying around 43 dB. Worse, fans blow up without special demand.
Finally, a word on recorded temperatures when converting video to 4K. The good news is, the keyboard remains relatively light even during this heavy work. Most of the heat is logically concentrated at the ventilation outlet, which measures 43.5°C.

Performance
The Acer Nitro V 15 is powered by an eight-core AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS processor clocked at 3.2 GHz, along with a 75 W GeForce RTX 4060 GPU and 16 GB of RAM. Released in mid-2023, the Ryzen 7 7735HS is actually very similar to the older Ryzen 7 6800H that it replaced. With the same Zen 3+ architecture and an almost carbon-copy technical sheet, it’s hard to spot the difference. However, it remains completely reliable for everyday office tasks and can even be used for content creation on its own.
This performance puts it close to the 2023 Asus TUF Gaming A15, which is equipped with the same chipset, but falls far short of other laptops. Gaming Released this year. The Asus Gaming TUF A14 2024 vintage is more than that, as other PCs do. Gaming Like the Zephyrus G14 — two competitors that are nonetheless much more expensive. That said, it’s hard to recommend the V 15 when the TUF A15, a year older and available at a similar price, is superior in every way.
Another sign of this test being half-baked for the moment, we measured its SSD performance at 3.7 GB/s in writes (good!) and 2.1 GB/s in reads (meh!). In fact, the best PCIe 4.0 SSDs are closer to 7 GB/s.

the game
By limiting the RTX 4060 to 75 W, Acer consequently limits its machine’s gaming potential, as evidenced by the seven-point drop in performance index compared to the Asus TUF A15 from 2023, even now. However, it’s surprisingly on par with this year’s ROG Zephyrus G14. A small difference that makes sense once in-game, because if performance plateaus, they remain perfectly viable across a sample of titles in our benchmarks.
So, just too greedy Black Myth Wukong Frame generation is no more than 60 frames per second (fps) with enabled, Nvidia’s proprietary technology that helps boost frame rates. Obviously, when we rely entirely on the GPU’s graphics power for rasterization, the results are more mixed. i play raytracing 3 slows down significantly without DLSS. Framerateand such topics are only slightly recommended. Alan Wake 2 or Cyberpunk 2077. Less demanding games in our benchmark, ie Shadow of the Tomb Raider etc Assassin’s Creed MirageCome out with flying colors like this.

Screen
Acer Nitro V 15 has a 15.6-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Its display frequency reaches 144 Hz, but it doesn’t include any VRR technology (so no AMD FreeSync). We regret its 16:9 format at a time when quality is moving more and more towards 16:10, much more practical for viewing content.
Unfortunately this is not the only problem with the Nitro V 15 panel, we also note major shortcomings in its calibration with a delta E of 6.1, which the human eye perceives as color drift. Its contrast also leaves something to be desired (1134:1), as its maximum brightness is only 237 cd/m². Two factors that affect comfort of use in overlit environments. At least we can take comfort in the reflected light rate at a respectable level of 21.7% thanks to the screen’s matte finish.
In terms of color temperature, a measurement of 6169 K confirms our impression to the naked eye of a certain yellowish hue on the panel. A positive point to remember, the persistence of 3ms fulfills the ambition. Gaming of Acer Nitro V 15.

Audio
The term compromise finds its full meaning when we get to the subject of audio, both in speaker rendering and headphone output. The bass is absent here and the midrange, on the contrary, is very present, creating an unfussy whole that shines through 65% of the volume. If it is insensitive to this distortion, the user can at least make do with the (very) high volume of these onboard speakers, which are capable of overwhelming a relatively large room with their din. It’s already taken.

As for the headphone output, what goes for one also goes for the other: the output level is also high at 398.5 mVRMS, which is great for high-impedance headphones, but the sound fidelity is rather disappointing. is We observe a reduced dynamic range and crosstalk, which leads to much less stereo. Distortion, even at twice the average of the PCs tested, remains unnoticeable.
Acer Nitro V15 | Average of tested PCs | |
---|---|---|
Output level | 398,5 mvrms | 172 MVRMS |
Distortion + noise | 0.035% | 0.018% |
Dynamic range | 71,1 dB | 98 dB |
Diaphony | -11 dB | -59 dB |

Autonomy
Undoubtedly, the Acer Nitro V 15 is a nice big baby. At 32.6cm wide by 23.9cm long and closing in at 2.35cm thick, it will require a large bag for nomadic players… but good shoulders too as it tips the scales at 2.1kg. A weight typically found in 16-inch models. Its power supply, around 465G, is also impressive.

We will not continue the suspense any longer. On our video playback test (Netflix video streaming, brightness set to 200 cd/m²), the Nitro V 15 lasted just 6 hours 6 minutes, one of the worst results for a laptop in its category. . Only the Alienware M16 R2, which didn’t have much work to do before, did less well. And it’s best to keep an impressive power supply nearby, as its single USB-C port isn’t compatible with charging.

How does ranking work?
Sometimes strength isn’t everything. If the Acer Nitro V 15’s Ryzen 7 brings its performance to a respectable level, its case is clearly not up to the standard expected for a laptop PC. GamerEven at entry level. Getting higher frame rates on AAA games is definitely a big plus, but shouldn’t come at the expense of user experience.
