Matteo Salvini acquitted: because he was not convicted.

Matteo Salvini was listed in a register of suspects in what was described as an “open arms trial”. Possible offenses for the Deputy Prime Minister were: kidnapping and denial of official documents. Last September 14, the prosecutor’s office requested punishment for “deliberate and conscious disregard of the rules and the voluntary denial of personal liberty of 147 people.”

Matteo Salvini was acquitted.

Matteo Salvini was acquitted because the truth does not exist. The court in Palermo decided not to condemn the minister and deputy prime minister in the government of the League leader, Giorgia Maloney. A case that has become international, involving the ship of the Spanish NGO Open Arms.

Salvini himself then contributed to raising the profile of his legal case beyond Italian borders. His very cinematic video quickly went viral and even got Elon Musk’s approval.

In August 2019, he prevented a boat crew from disembarking 147 migrants in Lampedusa, according to prosecutors. People were rescued at sea and in clearly dangerous conditions. All underline the documents presented in the courtroom, in an illegitimate manner.

Before the sentence, the minister explained that he was completely proud of what he had done. He was asked for 6 years imprisonment but was acquitted after a long session in chambers (from 11.30 today, Friday 20th December) as there was no guilt.
