The waltz of rumors surrounding the Switch 2 may end very soon. Nintendo’s next portable console is just days away from being announced, and the final details are coming out.
Date of announcement and release
The latest news is that a Chinese leaker who was already correct about the latest Nintendo Direct has actually shared the announcement date: January 8, 2025. So it will take us less than a week for the officialization. Interestingly, the first Nintendo Switch came out on January 13, 2017, offering a fairly similar launch window.
For its part, Italian media UAGNA shared information that goes hand-in-hand, the Nintendo Switch 2 release date. Set for three and a half months later, it will take place on Friday, March 28, 2025. Here too, we get Closer to the first hybrid console’s marketing period, March 3.
Nintendo Switch 2 Motherboard
In addition to these two pieces of information regarding the console’s arrival, one component was leaked on Reddit: the motherboard. A chance to discover 12 GB of RAM and the Nvidia logo on a single processor. As a reminder, an SoC from an American company should be out there once again.
Please note, this chip bears the designation “SNW8VF”, thus confirming that it is manufactured by Samsung and etched in 8 nm, similar to Nvidia’s Ampere architecture. Thus we will have the equivalent performance of the GeForce RTX 3000 released in 2020, which is enough to bring it closer to the expected performance, i.e. PS4 performance.
The Nintendo Switch 2 motherboard then features a slot for reading game cartridges, playing new and current generation titles. Finally, we see two USB-C ports: one at the bottom and one at the top. An opportunity to facilitate charging, while retaining the same port as the first generation, essential for dock use.
DLSS 2.0 technology for 4K
Update of the day: Nintendo patents. By the latter, the Japanese firm talks about its technologyUpscaling of the Switch 2, which can convert from 540p to 1080p. It’s also a bit of a nod to Nvidia, given that “The 540p resolution is also DLSS 2.0 performance mode” To reach Full HD, the notebook misses the check.
Note, the document filed by Nintendo also talks about converting from 720p to 4K. This again matches the performance offered by Nvidia with DLSS 2.0, and this time with Ultra Performance mode. As a reminder,Upscaling The Nintendo Switch 2 must be activated on one condition: connection to a power source, whether via USB-C by connecting it to a charger or to its docking station.
