12 years ago, Google made techies around the world dream by introducing its Google Glass connected glasses. Very soon, the product nevertheless faced a number of criticisms, especially regarding their appearance and respect for privacy.
Often mocked, never embraced, Google Glass will end up in the Mountain View firm’s big drawer of abandoned projects. However, this did not affect other companies, who were able to rely on Google’s inability to create their own vision of what this type of product should be. The current big trend is connected with mixed reality glasses, like Snapchat Spectacles 5 or Meta Orion.
That being said, the technology is clearly not yet ready to deliver a user experience worthy of the name. Also, while waiting for its flagship Orion project to mature, Meta has decided to partner with Ray-Ban to introduce another concept, called the Ray-Ban Meta.
These glasses don’t include a screen, but allow you to take photos and videos, listen to music or make calls while maintaining the discreet look of the classic frame. At the technical level, very little information is available. All we know is that they have a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 chip, a 12-megapixel (Mpx) camera and integrated speakers on the temples. The case works as a rechargeable case, like for wireless headphones.
Prices for the Ray-Ban Meta vary depending on the model chosen and currently range from €329 to €459.
