As previously announced by the Canal+ Group, on January 31, owners of Samsung televisions marketed before 2018 will no longer be able to benefit from the Canal+/myCanal application. Canal+’s reason for withdrawing the advanced app is simple: “technical obsolescence” that prevents it from maintaining support for an app that has grown so much in recent years.
“Technical obsolescence” that will affect many users.
However, there are alternative solutions for subscribers to continue enjoying Canal+ content. Other than buying a recent Samsung TV, however, since the 2024 models are not compatible with the Canal+ application…
If your ISP offers it, such as for free, it’s possible that the Canal+ application is available directly on your box. Similarly, it is possible to use the app through a third-party device, such as a multimedia box or mobile device. A web version of Canal+ is also a possibility, for example via a computer connected to the television.
Canal also points out that contacting customer service on 0801 907 601 allows you to obtain compatible reception equipment at no extra cost. The devices in question are not specified, but the solution may allow you to avoid spending money in your wallet to enjoy Canal+.
If you can’t remember when you bought your Samsung TV, you’ll need to identify your model. To do this, go to the serial number. If it starts with QE, look at the 5th letter from the end. If the serial number starts with EU, it is the 5th letter from the beginning that interests you. If that letter is M, K, J, or H, it’s a 2017 or older TV and you’re affected.
