An alternative
On the photo side, the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is a beautiful and expensive development with increased definition, dual-pixel AF technology, an LCD touchscreen, advanced connections, advanced autofocus and quality manufacturing.
On the video side, 4K is welcome, but we’re dissatisfied with the absence of features like exposure and focus assistants.
From a strictly photographic standpoint, the 5D Mark IV easily earns a Recommended rating.
However, it’s been four years since the arrival of the 5D Mark III and the competition, by contrast, hasn’t lived up to its name. Surprisingly, it’s not to SLRs that we should look for the most dangerous competitors, but to hybrids. Indeed, if the technologies are still evolving, it is important to recognize that Sony or Fujifilm are renewing their limits very quickly.
