On January 13, 2025, Samsung announced changes to its smartphone trade-in program (Galaxy Trade-In) in its home country, South Korea, announcing future expansion to other regions of the world.

Where previously a smartphone was traded in to purchase a new Galaxy model, now Samsung’s trade-in service eliminates this obligation. So, it is possible that you can resell your cell phone to Samsung and get a refund.

Joon Kim, executive vice president and head of the Galaxy Value Innovation Team, Mobile Experience Business at Samsung Electronics, touts the new trade-in program as an ideal solution for consumers. “Take advantage of the market value of their devices and the ability to securely exchange them through secure transactions”.

For the moment, Samsung has not specified which models are included in its new Galaxy Trade-in program. However, it listed the models that can be purchased in the South Korean market as follows:

  • Galaxy S20, S21, S22, S23 and S24
  • Galaxy S20+, S21+, S22+, S23+ and S24+
  • Galaxy S20 Ultra, S21 Ultra, S22 Ultra and S24 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Fold 3, Z Fold 4 and Z Fold 5
  • Galaxy Z Flip 3, Z Flip 4 and Z Flip 5

It remains to be seen which Galaxy models will be affected for the French market. In its press release, Samsung has also clarified the list of recognized models “May vary by country”.
