While we regularly applaud DJI’s efforts in monitoring and updating its drones, the Chinese firm never ceases to amaze with the announcement of a new compact drone with a surprising concept. Weighing less than 249g, the Flip features foldable and composite propeller guards, ensuring extremely safe and reliable flight. Photographers will be able to capture impressive 48 MP photos and 4K videos at the push of a button. Flip is equipped with fully comprehensive, permanently installed protection, ensuring safe browsing for all users. Made of lightweight and strong carbon fiber, the protective structure weighs only 1/60 of the weight of traditional polycarbonate protectors, while maintaining the same rigidity and durability, ensuring safe flights.
With or without radio control
As we’ve seen before and experienced with the Neo, Flip Mode takes off with a simple press of the button and selecting the desired shooting mode. It immediately goes into operating mode as soon as it is opened. The Flip is equipped with an optical block with a 1/1.3 Dual Native ISO Fusion CMOS sensor with an aperture of f/1.7 and 2.4 μm pixels capable of capturing 48 Mpx images and 4K/60 fps HDR videos. The 4:3 aspect ratio CMOS sensor provides plenty of room for vertical crops while maintaining 2.7k resolution, without the need for cropping suitable for smartphone viewing and social media.
AI is now ubiquitous in DJI drones.
Neo’s artificial intelligence algorithms ensure accurate tracking of the subject in the frame. Like the Neo, the Flip takes advantage of DJI drone users’ familiar QuickShots modes that include six intelligent shooting modes that offer a range of different shooting angles, including Drone, Circle, Rocket, Spotlight, Helix and Boomerang. These modes can be accessed either directly by pressing the Flip Mode button or through the DJI Fly application. New additions of course include DJI’s intelligent shooting features:
• Master Shots:
This feature allows you to automatically perform various camera movements, film multiple clips, and edit them with music, cutscenes, and effects for a quick, seamless cinematic sequence.
• Hyperlapse:
Four options for capturing time-lapse footage up to 4K horizontal or 2.7K vertical, including Free, Circle, Course Lock and Waypoint.
Focus Track:
Subject tracking with FocusTrack including ActiveTrack 4.0, Spotlight 2.0 and Point of Interest 3.0.
• Panorama:
Supports 180° panoramic, wide angle, vertical and spherical shots.
The small Flip can be used with the RC-N3 or RC 2 radio controls. A Wi-Fi connection with a smartphone allows you to control the Flip using a virtual joystick on the DJI Fly application interface. It will be able to capture audio and intelligently reduce noise, automatically filtering out propeller noise. Designed to be used without additional radio controls, it can also be paired with the DJI Fly application and controlled by voice (in English…). DJI promises up to 31 minutes of flight time with the Intelligent Flight Battery. The parallel charging station included with Flymore kits can charge four batteries with simultaneous charging of two batteries. Currently being reviewed by the editorial staff, Philip will certainly be subject to a thorough and thorough test.
