Blue -ray was born with PlayStation 3 18 years ago, with his high -bit rate and high definition video storage capacity to store hours. Many people still prefer streaming services, which are often accused of compressing video quality. In addition, physical media offers sustainability, whose digital platform does not guarantee, which can remove the content from its catalog at any time.

However, Blue Ray has not said its last word.

But this decision does not make an immediate death for Blue Ray. Sony is satisfied to prevent the production of empty discs for the local market. Fans will still be able to get discs from other manufacturers. Film studios also publish physical copies of their new release, even if the age of this economic model is uncertain.

In Japan, where streaming services later pushed, physical media was liked. As this trend is decreasing, Sony has decided to stop preparing its empty discs.

Globally, DVD is on its way. Sale is ending, supermarkets have stopped selling them and rental vending machines are now more attractive to scrap.

Streaming services provide unprecedented access and flexibility, and most people are happy with quality and accept property shortages. Statistics are clear: For the majority of consumers, peace is dominated by the occupation of sustainable physical medium. In France, in 2021, DVD sales were 31.29 million units, which traded 164.45 million euros. For competition, sales of blue -ray reached 7.89 million units the same year.

On the other hand, the subscription video on demand (SVOD) market has increased rapid growth. In the first half of 2023, the sector traded about one billion euros (991.4 million euros), which represents 83% of France’s total video market.
